Need help: Bigblock or Small block, opinions?

here's the story. ive still yet to go pickup my '70 shortbed from my friend that im buying. it has just a plain jane 350 in it that runs just fine. i did some work for another friend this week and in exchange, he will let me have the '99 vortec 454 out of a 1 ton that blew a head gasket. im trying to figure out whether or not to build the bigblock or small block. my budget isnt exactly the largest because im in college. i have roughly 300 a month extra to blow. ive got access to another 350,slightly cammed 4 bolt main through some trading with a guy my dad knows. i just cant make up my mind which one to build. a cheap aluminum intake for that 454 is 220, and the cheapest kinda mild cam is 245. so with shipping somewhere around 500. thats it. with maybe 375hp. possibly a little more with porting and polishing the heads. but i can buy a 383 stroker kit for not much more and have 500hp easy. what should i do?
