If you ever want to change the cam in a LS motor....

I did it this weekend and it was easy, easy. I've never done a cam swap before but just followed the instructions here:

Follow them exactly and get the recommended longer crank bolt - you definitely need it for removing the crank pulley and putting it back on. Other tips:

Buy one stock crank pulley bolt for your motor from dealer

Buy the longer crank pulley from the dealer. I don't know the part # but it's out of a LS7 7.0L Corvette. 125 mm long. The stock bolt is 103 mm.

To keep the lifters from falling, use the Russian Roulette method he describes in the link but then insert a long piece of 1/4" brake line in the two holes on the front of the engine. Works as well as the $100 rods that do the same thing for a lot less money.

Unfortunately for the valve springs, I tried to use the rental tool from the parts store but it was no help. I bought the $100 Comp Cams tool and it's worth it's weight in gold. it does 2 springs at once so it goes quickly and it's for an LS motor so it works.
