Dash Pad Passenger Side Screws

So, as I have torn apart the entire interior of the '87 V30 to scrub everything clean, install Dynamat Extreme EVERYWHERE, and generally get all the restoration work done, I have a question about the dash pad.

As I was removing the dash pad from the truck, the 4 screws along the bottom edge on the passenger side were secured in with the normal interior u-clip nuts pictured below.

There were a few anomalies I found make me think those clips were not the proper way the dash screws were secured to the dash because as soon as I removed the screw, the clips simply fell out and down to the floor. There really isn't a way to secure those u-clips into the slots properly. Can anyone confirm whether these u-clips are proper or not?

Steve
