Just picked this up a few weeks ago. I felt it was time for my 3 sons to learn how to fix something up and how to take pride in something they did. It will also be a great family bonding experience. All the body work is done, but it needs everything else other than suspension. After a good cleaning and wax the paint is in really good condition. There are some paint cracks on the left side of the bed where someone probably put a hand print on the body before painting, but other than that, its in fantastic shape. I haven't found any rust on it. I have had my eyes on a good parts truck for the last 6 weeks, but the guy is an over the road trucker so he's not home much. I was supposed to pick it up yesterday, but he was called for a California delivery. Hopefully in a couple weeks I can pick up the other truck, strip parts off, clean them up and get this one going.
I'm planning to go cheap with this. Whatever I don't get off the parts truck I'll be looking thru the parts for sale section and the You-Pull yards. I have 4 within 20 miles of me. I bought the truck for a song because the guy was just burned out with it. His idea was to make a street rod out of it. I will probably follow that to a point since I like the look of it. It will be more of a cruizer than a work truck. I'm looking at installing a 4.8, 5.3 or LT1 and 4L60E. I used to be a mechanic for Chevrolet about 15 years ago, so I can do it all myself. I'll probably lower it a couple inches and eventually add air conditioning. Can't wait to get going on it. |
