Anyone ever shorten control arms?

I have a 75 front end on my 72 and the front end is significantly wider than the rear. It looks ridiculous to me that the back wheels are closer together and tuck just fine and yet the front is wider and do not want to tuck. By my measurements the front end is about 3 inches wider than the back. Was thinking about cutting my top control arm where my black marks are and then just moving the ball joint in the bottom arm to where the black circle is. Sorry I am terrible with paint programs. If this all works then I will build tubular control arms in the future. Hopefully I can reduce the width by 1.5 inches per side. Is this a bad idea? Very open to suggestions. And I will put my 20s up there and make sure that there would be no interference. Also would need either shorter tie rods or a center link then. Can you get these?
