1966 Burb floor/firewall replacment questions

I recently scored a 66 Chevy Suburban (my first one!) (pics to follow when I get a decent day). It is really in decent shape from behind the front doors back. The back doors (barn doors) are awesome.
The front floorpan, rockers, and structural area on either end of the firewall are shot. I was wondering if everything was the same up here on the suburbans and pickup cabs.
I need to fix the rot, and would like to put a GMC dash in it. If it was so simple as cutting off a cab from the dash down, and splicing to the suburban body...?
Am I dreaming here? Does anyone have any experience with this?
