new with a few motor questions

i believe the truck is a early's 50's 51 or 52 maybe 3100 chevy.. 3/4 ton or a 1 ton... i know a guy that will let it go for 500 bucks.. heres the kicker. it doesnt run and the body is pretty rough. im trying to go for a street rod look. funds are limited being im 24 years old and independent. im guessing my first step would be to pull the motor and trans out and have everything sand blasted. im wondering how hard it will be to throw a v8 in it. maybe small block chevy and trans combo?? i have a 60's or 70's ford wide block sitting around collecting dust would it be a waste of time to throw the ford motor in it? thanks for the help guys ill have pics soon im going to look at it this weekend!
