Coilover question

So I am building at 1970 C10 Shortbox street/strip truck, and after reading through many suspension articles on here I decided to go with an aftermarket tubular control arm set up(either cpp or porterbuilt) and coil over shocks. I know I need to have the truck together and need axel weights to determan the springs I need. What I can't seem to figure out is how tall a shock I should use and how much travel. I know alot of you guys have done this type of set up. Can you guide me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.
