Temp Sending Unit Question

Ok I'm in the middle of switching my idiot lights to gauges and my idiot lights cluster had a aftermarket temp gauge when I took the idiot cluster out I noticed the temp sending wire was clipped before the gauge. The wire is hooked to the block but not to anything..so when I update to 7 hole gauges what should I do with the copper with spring looking covering that comes from the block??
