Need help with fuel delivery

I have a poorly designed rear mount fuel tank on my 71swb. If under 14 gallons are in the tank it will uncover the pickup during hard cornering or acceleration. Have any of you used the walbro fuel pickups that you can chain together in different locations inside the tank, and they shut when not submerged. They look interesting and way cheaper than the really nice tanks.
