New member with a '72
I bought it off of ebay somewhat impulsively. I'm car nerdy enough that I always looks at what they are going for (and several other types of cars ) and when this one came up, it looked good pretty straight and at a price I could afford. I've wanted a '71 or '72 Blazer for as long as I can remember. Back right after high school I had a friend who had a 70 shortbed 4x4 and a another friend with a 72 longbed 4x4. Have loved the body style since.
Needless to say, with the really nice finished ones go for $15,000 to $25,000 which I didn't want to spend. This one looked mechanically sound and nearly rust free (a big issue on these). However, the top is in rough condition, especially the hatch and the interior needs almost everything redone. The Blazer was up in Washington state (I live in Arizona) and I toyed with the idea of driving it back down. Ended up paying to have it shipped down. Thank God. This would have been miserable to drive back in. 4.11 gears, so it cruises comfortable at about 60 mph. Plus the weather stripping around the back hatch/tail gate is non-existent. This leads to a lot of exhaust fumes getting sucked back into the interior when cruising on the freeway. The story on the previous owner are that it was owned by the previous owners boss's son. The boss's son ended up passing away before finishing the build. The guy I bought it from got it from his boss after it had been sitting for several years. This meant the guy I bought it from didn't know the complete details on the truck. Anyways the specs: 1972 K5 Blazer 383 motor, somewhat recent rebuild SM465 4speed manual. Essentially a 3 speed with a super granny gear. 4.11 gears Axles from a 3/4 ton truck, 8 lug Dana 44 front Small GM 14 bolt rear (semi floater) 255/85R16 tires (approx 33.5 inch in LT size) Now the bad.... The hatch has seen better days Used to be blue. A bit of rust (the seller said it had no rust  ) Damage on hood More pics: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...rsionbox2.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...interior1.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...rsionbox1.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/217/rocker1.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/100/rocker2.jpg/ All in all, for buying a car sight unseen, I don't think it is too bad. Better than what I expected. Had prepared myself for the worst... |
