Re: Modified Brake Pedal for A/T

The pedal is a bit of a pain to take out. To make it a bit easier, I took out the entire instrument panel. You will also need to take the steering column loose (at the dash mount) in order to get the pedal out.

First I would remove the shoulder bolt that ties the brake pedal into the master cylinder rod. Then remove the brake return spring by using a pry bar or long flat head screwdriver and pry it out of the forward hole (not the brake pedal arm side).

Then there is a 5/16" bolt and nut on the RH side that you take out and that lets the brake shaft slide out to the right. The shaft is usually pretty corroded on the left side and takes a while (and a lot of persuasion) to get it all the way out. Be careful when taking it out because there are two plastic inserts on each side of the brake pedal shaft that can be damaged pretty easy during disassembly (but they are reproduced http://www.classicparts.com/1960-72-...ctinfo/71-745/).

I hope that helps.
