The overwhelming majority of flux core wires are straight polarity (meaning the wire is hooked up to the negative side) and the solid wires, which use a shielding gas, are reversed polarity (wire is connected to the positive side). If you have some spare time try a test with different polarity settings. Although core wire is not a first choice for body work, it should look better than that. But by far your gas weld is far better.
