Question on tranny plug in...

On my 74 c10, the rear back up lights have not ever come on. And now that i am starting to work on it,my friend that works on my rides, goes thru everything and comes up with thgis..He finds no plug in electricly from rear tail lights to anywhere as far as the back up lights go. He checks out the tranny to where it should have a plug in so that when put in reverse thats when it sennds the backup lights to come on, but there is no plug in on the tranny? He says it looks like the tranny must have been changed out to hom.

He will dive into this further in the coming weekends. He says that there should be would hes looking for up on the column maybe my the steering wheel? My thought is (mind u i am definitely not mechanicly gifted at all lol) if the plug in was on the original tranny for the back up sensor, and tranny was changed out, then there would not be one up front correct? So if this is the case, is the only way to fix this is to get a tranny that has the plug in on it or is there another way? Causr I have no reverse lights currently.
