New 66' 3/4 ton project ?'s
Hey Just joining the forum and I'm getting a start on a 66' Chevy Pickup 3/4 ton fleet side long bed C20. A little history my dad purchased the truck in 1969 used with 15,000 miles and put a camper on it a decade or so later. We used it for camping as I grew up as a kid until we upgraded to a full motorhome. At this point we pulled a set of 1 ton springs from under it as well as a set of hellwigs changing it back to 3/4 tons springs and pulled the camper off. I drove the truck from ages 16-20 until I joined the Air Force. I finally have an opportunity to begin working on this truck and will be headed to southern Cal to pick it up in a few months. This truck is fully operational and used occasional to pull loads and what not. it's equipped with a stock 327 with 98k original miles and a 4 on the floor w/ granny low.
I'm beginning to gather parts for the resto. First step I want to get rid of the Eaton rear end with 4.57 gears. So I picked this puppy up yesterday for $100 w/ 3.73 gears This is a gm 14 bolt FF out of a early 70's pickup. I will be pulling it apart and rebuilding what needs it. My question for now is can someone point me in the right direction for mounts to use? My understanding is the 14 bolt has slightly larger axle tubes and the eaton mounts wont cut off and swap over. Also looking at the flange mount/yoke on here it is 4 bolts with 2 "straps". any clue what modifications to my drive shaft i will have to make? Thanks! Mike |
