lug nut numbers

Hey guys. First time user. I have just acquired a 61 1/2 ton custom cab with a 305D. I know most half tons use 5 lug nuts, and 3/4 and up use 8, but mine has 6 lug nuts. Was that another difference between Chevy and GMC, or is there such a thing as a "heavy half" back in '61? If so, what exactly sets the heavy half off from the regular half ton?
