Exclamation Oil Filter Question

I've run my 5.3 swap a few times in the driveway for a few minutes at a time, and never had problems until I got to the exhaust shop. After we unloaded the truck, I started it up again to put it in the right place. That last time I ran it, the oil filter started spewing oil. At least I think its the oil filter because that was the only thing dripping when we shut off the motor.

The place was closing soon, so we took the time to clean up and I pulled the oil filter to check and see if it was double gasketed by mistake. Not the case. I did put the filter on as tight as I could by hand, and it was only later that my buddy mentioned that friend of his, who is also a dealer tech, puts the filter on his 6.0 with a wrench, which I've always thought has been a no-no. Are these engines an exception to the rule?

Am I just a massive idiot for putting the oil filter on not tight enough, or do I have a bigger problem? I'm confused as to why it happened after I ran it a while. The filter wasn't junk - I used a stock ACDelco filter.

I plan on going back there tomorrow with a fresh filter and oil to see if I can get it resolved. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks!
