Starving for fuel

When I got my 71 402 ten months ago it ran decent after a tune up but a short time later it started to have carb trouble first it would occasionally seem to lose power then the float started to stick. When I pulled the carb apart I found a beat up swollen float and also tiny pieces of junk in the bowl. After replacing the float with a brass one and cleaning all the junk out it ran much better, the next weekend I took it all apart again and installed a rebuild kit from then on it was awesome, until recently it started to have sporadic power issues. Tonight I tore into it , I found a few tiny pieces in the bowl, I went straight there because I figured that had to be it but after I got it all apart I really didn't find too much in the bowl. So onto the question aside from the fuel filter that I will buy tomorrow it was too late tonight what else do you think might cause this problem?.
