'78+ detent cable setup

On my truck the detent cable (TH350 transmission) is wired to the bracket on the carburetor with what looks like bailing wire or a bent paper clip. Something inside me says this is just not the way it's supposed to be. Does anyone have pictures of a '78 and later TH350 detent cable setup on their carburetor? I just want to see how it's supposed to look so I know what I need to replace to fix mine.

Thanks!
