86 K10 sorta long post...Help and carb and rpm question
Ok guys
I need your advice on my truck. I have an 86k10. It has a 91 350 in it with the stock quadrjet m4med carb on it. It also has a summit cam in it -224 degrees and 465 lift on the intakes. I also have summit headers. I bought the truck early this summer, and I have been slowly fixing all of the problems on it. The guy who had it before me seemed to do a half a$$ job on just about everything on the truck. I've found the bolts on the flexplate loose, header bolts off, numerous parts missing, and a whole slew of other things. Now for my problem. The truck runs great once I get it moving. However, it continues to stall out when I first kick it into drive. The only way to make it idle is to run the rpm at about 1800. When I do that and kick it into drive, it feels like I am going to tear out my transmission. Now I have looked everwhere for vacuum leaks. There are none. In fact, today I took the intake off to make sure it didn't leak. While I was there, I replaced it with the edelbrock 2101. I bought new gaskets for the intake and the base of the carb, put it all back together and still it stalls when I kick it into drive. On a side note, the intake is incredible, I didn't know it would do so much for performance. But now I am wondering what any of you think. A couple of question too. What should the rpms be at idle and when placed in drive? Could the cam affect the idle. Second, should my truck have an oxygen sensor, because it doesn't. If so, how would I find the wire? I don't see any off? Third, could my carb be junk? I tried to adjust the mixture, and I actually bought another one and tried that too. It was used, but the guy took it off of his truck recently and guaranteed it worked. Also, I even tried an Edlebrock 1405 carb that I know works and still it stalled. So, i'm at a loss. Does anyone have any ideas. Let your imagination run wild. I've found that the previous owner was pretty inventive with his screw ups. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike |
