1968 chevy c10 non powere steering column

My steering column broke park is straight up towards the roof of the cab (automatic) I canbarely go into drive its where 2nd should be my friend is a mechanic and said there's a spring or smething that's holds the column in place its in side the column its self idk if anyones knows what I'm talkin about or how t fix it but does anyone knw where I can get a new column? Thanks matt
