Test start on a 305

Trying to test start my 86 305 c10, restoring my truck, i have the frame and and four tires and the motor and trany in the frame, and i wanted to crank the motor before i bolt the cab on, i put a hose on the trany lines so they don't spray all over, The drive shaft is slid in the tranny, i put the crank on TDC/ piston at the top of cylinder on #1, hooked gas lines up to a spare tank iam getting fuel, i hooked a wire to the distributor 12v red wire, to my battery, wired the starter, is this how i would crank the motor ??
