Cool Freeze Plug repair with engine in Truck?

A major set back after getting engine running, antifreeze pouring out the bell housing!! In the quantity that flowed out I am thinking it is a freeze plug. I have a 62 parts truck and see that the floor is removable around the bell in the cab. No such luck in the 66. Can a plug be installed pulling the trans, clutch, bell? Is there enough room to drive a new one in? How easy is it to put a plug in. Can you pop it in with a wood dowel and a mallet and is there even enough room to do this?
