Calling those with shift kit experience...

Ok so ive got a leak from my trans pan gasket and figured id take this time to replace it and add a shift kit to it. Ive been doing some reading and it seems everyone is recommending transgo over b&m, everyone agree? Now as far as installing is this something I can do with the trans still in the truck? How simple is the kit to install?
