How best to install chrome trim in windshield rubber

As title sez. I tried doing a search but apparently did not describe the
question correctly ???
I started with the rear glass and placed the rubber on the glass first and got the trim on all but last 10 inches and could go no further.
Here is what I did, started with long bottom strip , then up one side then across top and that is the place it became difficult to open the slot.
So what am I doing wrong ? Will windshield be as difficult ?
