Question To Posi or not to Posi?

I have heard that getting a Posi unit for my truck would be a good thing, but are there any cons? How hard would it be to change it from what I have, whats involved? will I have to get new axels and gearing or just the posi unit? Is it somthing that I can read my book and learn how to do or should I make sure somone is there that really knows what they are doing? Im not sure what I have right now I know its not posi, but am not totaly sure on the gears. I think that they are 3.73 I have a 70 chevy that I think came with a manual 292?
