I somewhat cheated for the crossmember placement. I had the donor frame from the firewall forward. Before I dissassembled the crossmember I used a cheap can of orange rattle can paint to mark the placement of the donor parts on the old frame like a stinsle. Then I used the steering box mounting holes and a reference point in which to measure and mount the crossmember.
