New question

I know everyone calls the rectangular slot holders - seatbelt holders and then they went to cup holders. My theory right or wrong is that the rectangular version was for packs of cigerettes to go with ash tray and often used for setbelt buckles to kept them out of the way. Anyone have literature to support seatbelt buckle holders? I have never been a smoker but that seems like a home for cigs. similar to consoles of today and dash slots for them.
