How to fix the spring in the column for the gear lever

Hi;

I've been searching without luck to find a thread on how to fix the spring in the column that holds the gear selector lever taught.

I can see that my spring is broken, but I am unsure how I would go about replacing it....would I have to take the entire column apart to access it?

Any suggestions??
