Sloppy Tilt Column Repair

I'm in the middle of tightening the loose bolts in the steering column as detailed by Captkaos in his "Fixing a Sloppy GM Tilt Column" thread. I just got the bolts tightened and will start putting it back together tomorrow.

I found a small ball bearing laying on the seat as I was cleaning up for the day. My first thought was that a ball had fallen out of the upper bearing cage. I checked the cage, and all the balls are still in place. I have no idea where that ball came from. Does anyone have a clue where the mystery ball may have come from?
Thanks for any suggestions, Les
