Post Bucket Seat Console

I'm new to the site but I own a 1971 Chevrolet Cheyenne, everything stock besides the grill, and i'm also going to remove the three on the tree and replace it with a three in the floor. In order to do that and have enough room for the shift handle to clear the seats i'm going to have to put buckets in it. I have buckets out of a 73 blazer that are in decent shape and ive already removed the old bench seat. When I put the buckets in there there is a large gap in between the driver and passenger and the gas tanks cover is exposed, so I thought maybe I could make a console that comes to the top of the gas tank or something like that? If you guys have any ideas let me know. Thanks.
