55 chevy new door steps

Hi, guys I finally got around to installing my cab corners along with new door steps. The new after market door steps has a welding tab on the front and rear edge, and my factory door steps has none.

My question is do I cut the welding tabs off, and match the stock door steps or, leave it on and plug weld it to the sides leaving the tab in place.Has any one ran into this same situation. What looks better cut or uncut. If I decide to leave the welding tab like it is, whats the best way to fill it to look as smooth as possible.

Thanks for the advice
-Larry
