97 GMC Won't Start

I'm trying to help a friend of mine over the phone with the truck in the title. It is a 97 K1500 w/ 5.7L, Auto. He was driving it to work and it stumbled and died about a mile from his destonation. From the symptoms, I thought fuel pump. He came by and picked up a gauge and some tools so he could change the pump out. He tested the pressure and it was only 30 psi. He swapped the pump and filter today and now has 60 psi. The truck still won't start. He stated it would only turn over for a few revolutions and would slow and quit. The battery was <9 Volts. It wouldn't take a charge so they took it to Oreilly Auto and it tested bad, he put in a new battery. It now cranks good, still won't start. I had him pull some plugs and check them for fuel, they are dry. He checked for spark and has none from the coil. I'm going to try and out there tomorrow (its about an hour and 15 min away) and see what I can figure out. My plan is to check out the coil, ignition module, crankshaft sensor and associated wiring. Can you guys think of anything else to check? I did ask him if the security light was flashing thinking maybe the VATS was causing the problem, but the light is normal.
