dash light's stoped working ??

the other night I was getting ready to leave the wife's Grandmothers house an go to turn on the head lights like normal an the dash lights came on dim , so I go to adjust to make a little brighter an they brighten up an went out an couldn't get them to come back on ? put in new headlight switch no change , checked power to floor dimmer switch was good high an low ?? not sure whats up ? all fuses are good . what color is the wire in the plug on the back of the cluster ? any help would be great ...
