NP205 Transfer Case Brkt. ?

Hopefully will be able to remove the transfer and trans (sm465) tomorrow from my '71 4x4. Removing the sm465/np205 and swaping to TH350/np205 auto setup. After removing the transfer case to frame bracket on the RH side I noticed it has a crack thru both bolt holes. Apparently cracked years ago , and it was welded on top of the bracket so the bracket to frame mating area is smooth. After doing a search I read that the General quit using the frame bracket in '72? I don't do a lot of off-road driving but usually keep any thing I remove in place when I go back together. Been thinking perhaps cut and weld a doubler plate to help strengthen the bracket. Is this an issue or can I leave it off?
