2.0 FOX SHOX, shock boots needed?

Alright a couple months back i bought a brand new lift kit from BDS and opted for the fox shox instead of the plain jane bds stuff. Now the shocks didnt come with boots, ive been looking online at pictures of the shox, still no boots? So now this is my question do they even need boots? The truck will mostly be on the road, but occasionally i might tread through some mud or water. With that being said should i go out and buy boots or do you think ill be safe?
