Confused..Trans Coolers.. How is yours hooked up?

Hey guys, ill try to keep this question simple..

Just finished installing a B&M 2-4 servo (700r works well) but as i was changing out the fluid (dex not f type as some are using) I noticed the trans cooler setup the PO installed is after the in rad cooler...?? why would he do it this way?

thought the idea of external coolers was to keep coolant heat away from trans heat and if the rad failed, not fill your tanny with coolant..

Now its set up like this... pressure side to lower rad port, output of rad, to input of cooler, output of cooler back to trans, The 700 is rebuilt and I would say a trans shop installed the cooler.

Should i leave it or change it???
