Atypical exhaust question.

I've heard and used several brands of exhaust; Magnaflow, Borla, Flowmaster, etc.

All of these have decent tone, don't get me wrong, but I read soemthing a few years ago that has stuck with me. There was a man who had a '68 Camaro - really nice blue paintjob, 468 BBC, mean little Pro-Touring car - but he used a high-quality (can't recall brand) set of mufflers designed for... the import tuner market.

Go figure.

Allegedly, it had a rather unique exhaust note that didn't sound like 'just' a BBC. I've never heard a domestic engine through a set of mufflers like that, but given the words 'exotic' and 'european' seem to come to mind when the writer described it, it stuck with me that it could be something interesting and different to try.

Has anyone ever heard of someone doing a similar set-up, or more importantly, has anyone actually heard the exhaust from a vehicle someone has done this to?

Color me thinking outside the box...
