Angry 63 steering column

Hello everyone! I have a new problem with my steering column wiring. I ordered a new turn signal switch and was installing it last weekend. When I went to put it together, I discovered the switch was smaller than my old one and wouldn't mount up. I then took apart the column on a friends 66 GMC, but his is the same as mine. Is this a difference between Chevy & GMC? If so, would I be able to swap the mounting plate from a Chevy and make it work? Or am I better off swapping out the whole column for a newer style? Any help would be appreciated.
