first start up? on junkyard engine

Im about to start my 5.3 for the first time in god knows how long. I have a mechanic friend that tells me to squirt a few squirts of oil into each cylinder before I fire it off. What are all of you LS swappers doing for first time starts with in your engines that have been sitting for a long time between running? And what kind of antifreeze are you running? The red stuff that they come with now days, or the conventional green stuff?
