700R4 Question

I have to rebuild or replace the tranny for my truck. My dad's mechanic is strongly recommending that I choose to replace the tranny, opposed to having it rebuilt. He says that it will be better and stronger in the long run.

My local tranny shop quoted about a $1000 to rebuild/upgrade my current tranny. I know for sure that my tranny has been rebuilt before. I have the receipt from the past owner for it. I have no idea, however, if my tranny is the original one for the truck.

I have looked at aftermarket 700R4s. B&M, TCI, etc. are kinda expensive. I like this company, Bowtie Overdrives. I can get a stage 2 tranny with a pretty good warranty (compared to the one from my local shop) for about $1100. I am skeptical about them b/c I haven't read about them in magazines, forums, etc.

Bowtie Overdrives website:

The transmission will be hooked up to a 400hp/tq 350. Hopefully. I have to build the motor first.

What do you guys think?

Thanks

Joseph
