New from Ohio w/'68 GMC 2500 Custom Camper

Hello from northern Ohio, John is the name and the turbo in the user name is from my turbocharged sports cars and depending on the direction I go with the GMC, it might apply to it too one day.

I'm writing this from our timeshare in Orlando waiting until Wednesday to make the trip to Daytona to see the start of the Turkey (Rod) Run up at the Belle Aire Plaza. Sitting out in the parking lot on a trailer is my 1968 GMC 2500 Custom Camper that my Mom gave me back in 1993 and we're hauling it back to Ohio after being down in FL since 1987. It has been sitting out of the sun in a covered lean to for all that time. Before going to FL. in 1987, it saw duty as my mom's camper truck and never saw bad Ohio winters as it sat every northern winter in fairground storage or her back garage from '73 to '87. Mom worked for a Fisher Body parts plant and back then GM salary employees could buy vehicles at a discount and resell them, but they had to own them for the model year. Mom bought the truck off of a department superintendent that used it to haul his horse trailers around. So I am the 3rd owner and interestingly enough, all 3 owners were/are GM employees.

So, that's it about me and the truck and I honestly do not know what I am going to do with it at this point in time. It is all there, not rusty and I could take it right back to factory showroom by stripping off the late 70's maroon paint job and going back to solid blue/white roof combo, but I can't say I honestly love old stock vehicles. This one is a true survivor vehicle and I am torn about the thought about dropping a Duramax/Alison combo in it. I'm in no hurry, so it will just start sitting in a new covered spot in Ohio for the time being.
