Saw two 67-72 tow trucks driving around today

First one was on the freeway. Was a GMC. Had the yellow strobe light on top that was on and spinning. Had some sort of shop sign on the door. Second one was a Chevy tow truck that passed me on a side street.

Do people buy these and drive them around like a regular bed pickup, or are these still being used for towing work?

Seems kinda cool, but not having an actual bed would get a bit irritating for me personally
