Angry 67 pedal placement issues

HI everyone! After four years of getting her back to road ready I began on the interior last week. I got new carpet, dash components, sill plates, and pedals. I've been running without a gas pedal for the whole time I've owned it. I've never had the studs in place for the pedal either. I replaced the floor corners, and right and left side front pans to fix the common rust issues and the repops don't have the raised area for the pedal marked. My problem lies in this, I drilled out the holes for the studs to go into and lined the pedal up. There's a rubber plug looking piece that I guess contacts the accelerator linkage that's steel on the back of the pedal. Its just as wide as the the metal nipple on the end of the linkage. When it's perfectly lined up, all is well; however, it tends to drift off of the rubber piece and puts the pedal at an angle to the right/left. The studs just stick up in the rubber and don't seem (to me) to keep it still. I'd like to keep it as 67 as possible but this is a PITA. Is there a piece I'm missing or do people just live with the issue? Please help.
