About to bag

Thanks to a friend I will finally get a bagged vehicle. We're bagging 2 trucks in the up coming months. My 65 and his 66. All of the materials are in the mail on their way. First agenda is to remove the bed and do the notch. I've been lurking a lot and notice a lot of different types and sizes.

What determines if I need a giant notch or just a small one? Looking at Dino's newest build it looks like a small notch but I've seen some really major ones.

I also noticed some bags are attached directly to the trailing arms, looks like no cups or plates, am I just not seeing something?

Any and all help, advice/comments and links are very welcome.
