Linkage Help

Hello Everyone, my name is Frank, and I am new to this forum, and to Chevy Truck restoring. I have a 1950 Chevy Truck, came with no engine and I was able to find a good running 216 to put in it. The linkage rod from the gas pedal lines up with the throttle linkage on the Rochester 1bbl carb. The problem is when you push the gas pedal, the rod goes forward towards the radiator, but the carb linkage accelerates towards the firewall. So they are opposite. What Am I missing?? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
