1965 K20 front springs
I picked up a 1965 K20 recently and have been working on some issues to get it on the road. The pass side front spring has a bent main leaf. I have attached a couple pics of it. The truck seems to sit lower in the front than it should on BOTH sides though. I read on this forum that the stock springs in 60-66 were 2" wide. The springs on my truck are 2.5 inches wide for most of the length and then taper down to 2" near the end. They have 5 leaves and the grease fittings just like the ones that LMC truck sells. Are these the factory springs on my truck, and if so are they just REALLY fatigued and that is why it sits so low in the front?
My rear springs have 8 leaves but the replacement ones LMC sells have 6 leaves. The truck also has the factory "dog bone" lift blocks in the rear. The tires are 35 x 12.5 x 16.5. I am trying to decide if I should take my springs to a shop and try to have the main leaf replaced and have them rearched, or if I should buy new springs from LMC. I would like the truck to sit level and don't want to buy new springs and have it still sit low. I want to keep the stock spring hangers an do not want to swap in later model springs. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. THANX !!! |
