Crew cab to Regular cab

Well the Northeast winters have claimed another GM frame, upon MSI (Maine State Inspection) this year I was informed that due to rust my 81 GMC will not pass another inspection. So I am left with the dilemma, scrap the entire truck and get something newer or possibly take the 1986 Crew cab camper special frame I've had laying around for 2 years and shorten it down to to a regular cab through a little research I have found a CCLWB is 164.5 and a RCLWB is 131.5, what is the practicality of this project??
