lowering options, cutting coil springs? tires sizes

I am close to getting it on the road, original big block truck now sits a little high in the front. I like the idea of lowering the entire truck a tad bit to give it a better stance. I have read a little on some folks cutting a coil off of the springs to lower it. SInce im sure I have original coils, I am not against cutting them if it will give me the desired stance. My questions are does it make the truck ride any worse with the cut springs and how big of a task is it to cut them?

Any assistance would be great, also looks like I may have found a set of 6 lug steelies, so I also have questions regarding what tire sizes to run. HOw wide of a wheel can I put on the rear with the stock width wheel and what size should I run up front to fill the space up as much as possible?
