Neutral Safety Switch install problems
Got a new NSS to replace mine as the backup lights didnt work.
Plugged the backup lights into the new unit and manually moved the tang and my backup lights came on. woot. Now the hard part. Installing it back on the column. The new unit is a little different than the oem. Instructions say to move the tang so the holes line up and stick a 3/32 drill bit in it to hold it in place. Then put the truck in neutral and install the new unit. Problems: The tab is bigger on the new unit. There seems to be some plastic tabs that stickup more than the OE so the unit doesnt sit flush againsnt the column. When i hold the unit with my hand and move the gear selector I can see it push the tang to one side. But when I move it back the other way the tang doesnt move. Just looking at it and feeling in the column there is only one finger. So I can see how it pushes the tang on the unit one way but how the heck does it push it back the other? The whole thing doesnt make sense to me. Seems like there should be a finger on both sides of the tang on the unit to push it in both directions?? So what's the trick I'm missing? I got the part at pep boys. I looked at Brothers and their unit looks just like the OE one so Im wondering if I should just get that instead. Seems like this should work though. |
